Commencement of duties in the year 2022
All Officers of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana Religious and Cultural Affairs were sworn in today (03.01.2022) with the objective of building a prosperous country through efficient public service. Prof. Deshabandu Kapila Gunawardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and Sunanda Kariyapperuma, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs conveyed their congratulatory messages at the inauguration ceremony. Dr. Anwar Hamdani, Director, Technical Services, Ministry of Health, delivered a keynote address on the public service in adopting the most effective and hygienic practices in the face of the prevailing Covid 19 epidemic.

Program on the Development of the Five Year Strategic Plan of the Department of Buddhist Affairs
Towards a virtuous, disciplined and just society through the vision of prosperity that the country builds Program on the Development of the Five Year Strategic Plan of the Department of Buddhist Affairs was held on 17.12.2021 at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana Religious and Cultural Affairs, Colombo 07. Discussions focused on new strategies and achievable goals for the next five years. Several new plans were proposed targeting temples and monks, Dhamma schools and its community, as well as all institutions affiliated to the Department of Buddhist Affairs, the community. The five year strategic plan will be unveiled in the near future. The resource contribution for this program was made by Mrs. Thilaka Jayasundara, Additional Secretary, State Ministry of Smallholder Crop Development Industries and Export Promotion.

National Program for the Training of New Little Monks
National Program for the Training of New Little Monks The Department of Buddhist Affairs takes the lead in recognizing the responsibility of protecting the esteemed generation of monks in Sri Lanka, which has a Buddhist-centric society since ancient times. As a department, a national program for this purpose is already in operation. It is a national program for training Little Monks. Under the supervision and guidance of the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs, Sunanda Kariyapperuma, the 9th edition of the National Program for the Training of New Little Monks was successfully held at the Hanthana Siri Dhammaratana Tripitaka Dharma Institute, Kandy from February 6 to 13, 2021. May the Triple Gem bless all those who have supported the training program on the Sasana rituals and the role of the Sasana for the Little monks.
